Wasp Increase

Wasps on the rise this summer

Calls have increased dramatically to deal with wasps nest over the past months due to the long term heat we have been experiencing. As we are nearing the beginning of September, worker wasps will be looking to indulge on one of their favourite foods, fallen fruits. Due to the fermentation process of the fruits, the wasps elicit more aggressive and confident behaviour which means they are more likely to sting unannounced. Usually, wasps will not sting you unless they feel under attack and provoked to do so. Unlike bees, wasps do not die after stinging and can sting multiple times if they feel threatened. If you come across a wasp, it is advised to remain calm and move slowly away.

Best practices for avoiding wasps include;

-fly screens in the house

-keeping bin lids closed

-removing food from sides in the kitchen where possible
