The effectiveness of pesticides actually decreases over time. This is not due to dilution or misuse, but actually due to the resistance to these pesticides formed by pests. A bit like humans who take antibiotics for example; the bacteria that the antibiotics are there to fight over time build up a resistance and so the antibiotics are less effective. Pests do the same thing with pesticides.
