Pest behaviours

A pest is an animal, bird, rodent or insect that is too close for comfort. From dive-bombing seagulls, to wasps in the kitchen, every pest has a set of behaviours that need to be recognised in order to get rid of them.

Pests find their way in to our homes or businesses in a variety of ways – from an open window, to being transported in on pets or clothing etc. Once a pest takes up residence in a property, it can be difficult to get rid of them.

In order to be successful in getting rid of a pest, there are certain key factors that need to be understood:

• Their lifecycle – in the case of insects, understanding their lifecycle is important as the only real means of dealing with them is to break this cyclical routine. This can mean not only applying insecticide but also the use of heat during the cleaning process.
• Their habits – many pests are naturally suspicious of anything new in their area. Thus, simply placing a trap in the cellar will not catch the rat – they will just avoid it.

But, living with a pest is not a welcome thought. Studies have shown that we are less tolerant of pests thus, if you have a problem and need advice as well as treatment, then I am the professional to call.

• I have also attended a variety of courses making me a specialist in dealing with many pests, as well as prevention methods and techniques
• Health & safety on the job is essential for you your family, customers and so on; as a member of Basis PROMPT I have attended many courses that focus on health and safety, as well as other related courses
• I have also spent 20 years in the military prior to being a pest controller thus, I bring many transferrable skills and abilities to may work as a pest controller
• Professionalism is key to offering a great service and this is why I am a member of the National Pest Technicians Association; this trade body promotes professional standards in both training and practice.
